Hillary Clinton vows to address gun violence

After the fatal shooting of two Virginia journalists, Hillary Clinton has pledged to take initiative against gun violence, stating that mass shootings are “stalking this country.”

Clinton took to Twitter to say, ” Heartbroken and angry. We must act to stop gun violence, and we cannot wait any longer. Praying for the victims families in VA,” NBC News reports.

Hillary Clinton insists that there is evidence that if guns were not easily obtained, and standard background checks were in place, mass shootings could be avoided.

The stance comes on the heels of the tragic shooting of two Virginia journalists, who were shot while filming live, early this morning. The gunman was a former employee of the news station who planned the attack after a reporter allegedly used racist remarks against him. The gunman also stated, via Twitter, that the reporter filed a human resources complaint against him after working together. He lead police on a manhunt, that ended when he crashed his car, and then shot himself.

Clinton is far from the first Democrat to push for gun reform, on the heels of tragedy. In 2012, President Obama pushed for new laws after the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary school, but was unsuccessful.
