Los Angeles, California – Mazda inaugurates its MX-5 Miata roadster 2016 model, comprising of a 1.5 liter engine and faintly lower horsepower than its precursor. Mazda Miata is one of the most desired and marketable roadster in the United States. It offers sophistication, a smooth ride and is super comfortable.
Taking the automotive world by surprise more than 25 years ago, the Miata is considered today as a legendary sports car that has achieved an automotive milestone.
Rod McLaughlin, Mazda’s vehicle line manager for North American operations, stated that it is the best-selling roadster reaching 940 thousand in sales globally.
In 1989, its debut presented a simple and full of fun roadster that soon, was considered a cult car. Thom Bryant, a former Road & Track editor, was present for the first ride, and compiled a book entitled, “Mazda MX-5 Miata, Twenty Five Years” recently.
With a base price just below $25,000, Mazda’s latest 2016 edition Miata still possesses the simplicity in form its famous for, and still boast lots of fun. The folding soft top still opens with just a wrist flick.
McLaughlin stated that Mazda wanted to add a bit more of aggressiveness and focus on its timeless design, a design that will last for years. He added that the company wants it to look good even after 25 years.
The company made sure in 25 years that nothing changes when it comes to the car’s mechanical formula. A front four-cylinder engine and independently-suspended wheels in the rear and in between, a conventional user controlled 6 speed manual transmissions.
Owners can still opt for an automatic transmission, but true fans consider the manual shifting of gears make the driving experience feel right. This is more so, while driving with the car’s top down during a sunny day on empty and twisty roads.
It may not be the most aggressive and powerful sports car today, it was never created for that matter and will never be.
The new Mazda Miata is not about a car getting from point A to B the fastest, but making sure drivers enjoys the travel getting there.
