9 things new about the iOs 9

Apple’s newly released iOS 9 beta 4 is now finding its way onto the iPhones and iPads of developers worldwide, and as they rush to install the latest beta release of Apple’s mobile operating system, we are starting to learn of a few additions and changes that have found their way into beta 4 when compared to the outgoing beta 3 release. Here, we take a look at the ones we know about currently.

1. New Notifications icon and redesigned Battery icon in Settings:

The Notifications icon is now red rather than grey, and the Battery icon is now rounded to match all the others.

2. A new Handoff interface:

No longer a multitasking card, a new banner appears in the multitasking view when Handoff is available.

3. Home Sharing for Music:

After being pulled in iOS 9 beta 3, it’s back baby, as promised by Eddy Cue.

4. New photo picker on the web:

The new interface looks and feels more like the one we are used to in native apps.

5. Music app changes:

Larger artwork as well as radio and heart function when sharing within the Music app.

6. Activity indicator:

The activity indicator is moved to the right-side of the Status bar when the ‘Back’ button is on-screen.

7. The Podcast app supports Picture-in-Picture on iPad:

Now you can watch all of your video podcasts while you work or, more likely, read Twitter.

8. HomeKit in Notifications:

New settings for HomeKit notifications in the Settings app.

9. The volume buttons now take photos again:

Pressing the hardware volume buttons now fires a photo again, fixing a bug in iOS 9 beta 3.

We’ll keep our eyes peeled for more changes as iOS 9 beta 4 starts to get some more heavy duty testing, but with iOS 9 set to ship some time in September, we would expect the feature list to start getting nailed down soon enough – maybe there won’t be too many more additions between now and then.
