Avril Lavigne has been unwell for the past two months without knowing what was wrong with her; even the doctors could not diagnose her health condition.
In an interview aired on the morning show, Good Morning America, the pop star speaks out about her battle with Lyme disease.
She becomes quite emotional when she recalls how she became bedridden in October with the bacterial infection, stating that it was the worst time in her life and she dint know what was wrong with her.
She told the hosts of the show that she visited every specialist and they all would tell her its chronic fatigue syndrome, asking her to ‘just get out of bed’, asking her questions like ‘are you depressed?’
Lavigne aired her feelings that a lot of people who contract this disease have to go through similar treatment, because doctors don’t have an answer for them.
She says that she finally took her heath in her own hands and searched for a specialist in Lyme disease.
Lyme disease is an illness caused by ticks; it is very common in North America and Europe. Symptoms of the disease are rash, headaches, fever, chills and possibly arthritis, neurological and cardiac disorders.
“The thing is when you’re a specialist you also really know the disease inside and out and you can diagnose through symptoms.” Lavigne says on the show that aired Monday morning.
The pop star is determined to make a full recovery and is already halfway through her treatment, and she ended the interview on a positive note saying, “There is hope… and you can get better. I think, for me, it’s like a second shot at life. I want to go out there and truly do what I love. So I’m so excited for life after this.”
