Fiat Chrysler Sales on Jeep Surge to 6% Increase in the US Market

Last month U.S. consumers flocked to Jeep dealers. FCA US LLC, formerly known as Chrysler Group, said Tuesday that its 4X4 jeep crushed sales records for the month, resulting to surge company-wide U.S. sales by 6 % in February compared to the same month last year.

Reid Bigland, head of U.S. sales for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, said in a statement announcing the monthly figures, “Our vehicle lineup continues to produce record sales results even with tougher year-over-year sales comparisons in 2015”.

February data are expected to show a continued high appetite for new vehicles since U.S. brand new-auto sales are a vital measure of consumer sentiment.  Sales on SUV tend to escalate during the winter, when consumers tend to purchase vehicles that are more road worthy to icy road conditions. Even if they wind up paying more for gasoline over the life of the vehicles, the low prices of gasoline tend to steer consumers away from more fuel-efficient models.

Jeep sales jumped 21 percent.   The Jeep Patriot compact crossover SUV hit a staggering all-time monthly record of 10,280 deliveries. Four of the five Jeep brands had their best February sales on record.

Thanks to the recently redesigned Chrysler 200 sedan, FCA’s Chrysler brand saw a 13 percent sales growth . Meanwhile, Dodge sales drop 5 percent, led by a decline in demand for the Caravan and Durango. FCA shifts its minivan focus toward an all-new Chrysler Town & Country, due for release in the next year or two. The Caravan will soon be phased out .  The Durango SUV is also being phased out as FCA shifts its SUV efforts into Jeep, which the company has high hopes of taking globally by storm.

Ram pickup truck sales increased 12 percent, which makes up 21 percent of all FCA sales in the U.S. Buyers purchased 6 percent of the third-most popular vehicles in the U.S., to an all-time high of 33,991 units.

For now, Fiat brand sales dropped 5 percent to a paltry 3,289 units. The Alfa Romeo brand was recently reintroduced to the U.S. Only a meager 144 units were sold last month for the 47 Alfa 4C sports cars.
