Google has just released its list of most downloaded games on its very own Play Store in 2014 which saw Candy Crush Saga taking the top spot.
Aside from the engaging puzzle game, other games that stamped their class and made in into the top five this year as most downloaded games are Don’t Tap the White Tile, Farm Heroes Saga, Subway Surfers, and Clash of Clans. Dong Nguyen’s phenomenal game Flappy Bird which became a huge hit in the first quarter of 2014 failed to make it in the elusive list.
In the app segment, MyFitnessPal took the pole position in the health and fitness niche. Other apps that reigned supreme on their respective segments are TripAdvisor (Travel), Duolingo (Education), NFL Mobile (Sports), Netflix (Entertainment), Facebook (Social), Pandora (Music), and Flipogram (Photography).
Moving over music, movies/TV, and book categories, plots revolving around the young adults and zombies were quite common. The heartwarming Frozen captured the “Movie of the Year” plum, while another animated movie, Toy Story, annexed the Comeback Movie of 2014 award.
Other awardees include: OST (Play Store’s Album of the Year), The Walking Dead (TV Show of the Year), Katy Perry’s Dark Horse and Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy (Song of the Year). Two book titles (The Fault in Our Stars and Divergent) that are centered on teens seized the first and third “Books of the Year.”
Multi-awarded and multi-faceted Robin Williams’ heartrending suicide several months ago made him the Most-Searched Actor on Google Play.
And last but definitely not the least, the pacesetters In the Google Newsstand include Flavorpill’s15 ‘90s Teen Heartthrobs Who’ve Resurfaced on TV and MarketWatch’s 10 Most Miserable Cities in America. “The Verge’s “Best of CES 2014” was also one of the top performers in the Newsstand category.
