Windows Phone 8.1 Update is going to the developers next week, with a number of exciting features to boot and will be accompanied with the vaunted and exciting Cortana Microsoft’s digital voice assistant.
We have been informed of the inevitable Windows Phone 8.1 Update release that will surely provide delight to all Window Phone users. Microsoft has publicized the entry of its digital voice assistant through Windows Phone 8.1 Update in China and the United Kingdom next week through Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview program.
Windows Phone 8.1 Update boasts of these wonderful and very useful features:
- Live Folders
- 1280 x 800 screen resolution support
- Voice over 4G LTE VoLTE support
- 7-inch tablet or phablet support
- Store’s Live Tile
- Enhanced Messaging
- Apps Corner
- Network Time Protocol (NTP) support
- HTC Dot View Case support
- Cortana’s release in China and the UK
Live Tiles serves as a signature attribute of Windows Phone, but with the Windows Phone 8.1 Update, the live tiles gets a boost as it can now be placed in folders, just like with phones that comes with iOS or Android platform. But in contrast with Android or iOS, the Windows Phone’s live folders will let you have a glimpse of the snippets of information.
The innovative and new feature, Voice over LTE (or VoLTE) will enable the users of Windows Phone to come up with phone calls on 4G wireless connections. To date, mobile users can only be able to make calls via Wi-Fi or 3G and this surely change for the better.
The Network Time Protocol support will also get a lift as it is now curtailed to aid in regulating the Microsoft devices’ internal clocks. Although clocks are calibrated to show the same time, at times, device lag emerges out in each clock resulting to a new minute or hour at various time intervals (for instance some phones will get into 1 PM ahead of others).
HTC Dot View Case support is also bundled with the Windows Phone 8.1 Update. This is not unexpected, as HTC One M8 for Windows device will surface out for Windows users in the coming days. The new Dot View Case support will also allow users to see the time and weather without resorting to opening the case.
And one the greatest offerings of the update, is perhaps the Cortana. The Siri-like digital voice assistant let users have a fast access to information like sports scores and weather through a voice command – an attribute that iPhone users already have with the help of Siri, and Android users through Google Now. Cortana will soon be available in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, China, and India.
Cortana will be dubbed as “Xiao Na” in China, while UK mobile phone users will come with a “British-accented” Cortana while providing the latest scores in the English Premier League. The US, UK and China users are chosen as the initial test mode of Cortana, while Canada, Australia and India will have their turn once the initial test mode concludes.
This development is indeed great news for Window Phones users. The newfangled features will not only give comfort and convenience as they are also cinched to improve one’s mobile phone experience.
